What kind of unusual things are we afraid of today? There's the irrational fear of zombies. This is unrealistic. How about the fear that clowns are going to kill you? Not very plausible either. What about dolls? Many true stories of dolls have described them to be possessed and dangerous beings. Some people think that this is far off and unrealistic until recently. In San Clemente, California there have been eight different reports of families with dolls appearing on their doorsteps. This “irrational” fear does not seem so impossible anymore to the public. Most have seen all of the movies and shows that have given dolls the bad reputation that they have (Movies That Give Dolls A Bad Reputation). The Michelson family has reported that this has been a reoccurring event that they would like to avoid. They do not have children, nor do the own dolls. This adds to their worries about the alleged possessed dolls appearing on their front porch. The Libby family has four kids, all boys. When they returned from their vacation there were three dolls on their doorstep. The Tracy’s, an old couple who recently moved here from Maine, have received only one doll reported yesterday.
All of these families have reported a recent death in their family. It is assumed that these dolls are being placed withholding their loved ones spirit. Why do so many people believe that these stories are a stretch? The family members do not. They have all reported that they feel a warming presence from these dolls as well as an uncanny, nervous feeling. It is the unknown that scares us. Unsureness of how they got there. Unsureness of why they are there. Unsureness of the possibility that they hold the spirit of their past family members and loved ones. The unknown is the most scary because no one has the answers (Warner). All anyone knows is that these dolls, children's toys, are just appearing. Is this supposed to be a comfort or a dark evil coming for each family it can take?
Endnotes:
I got this idea from a true story actually occurring in recent years in California. The real story is that it was just a woman from their church trying to do something kind. I felt that I could edit the story to make it creepier and maybe something that a reporter would report with little information. I referenced the article I read online about how dolls have been given a bad reputation from movies and television. I also referenced another website that I read about the unknown of dolls and why they scare us.
