Dear Kate,
My husband and I were married four years ago. The last four years have been the happiest of my life. We have a three year old girl, Anna, who is my entire world. Currently, I am two months pregnant and I am expecting a baby boy on June 3rd. My husband, Matt, has everything figured out. He has painted the nursery, bought itty bitty baby clothes and he even found an old doll in my boxes of things from my moms house and has placed it in the nursery. The dolls name is Joliet and it is very antique. Matt is very excited for this day to come, but I on the other hand, am scared. Let me explain. For the past three generations, the second child of my family has been a boy and for the past three generations, that boy has died as a baby.
This seems like coincidence, but it is not. Each infant has been born and has died three days after his birthday. Each baby girl of the family has survived and been okay. My question for you would be why do you think this is happening? Of course you aren't a doctor, but I think I'm going crazy. Doctors say that it is a birth defect, the three days are simply a coincidence. Scientists say that it runs through the mens genes. None of this makes sense. I personally believe that there is an outside source making this happen. While you may be asking yourself why I have sent into you a very difficult and almost unanswerable question, it's purely so that I may get an outsiders opinion with only minimum details. Have you ever heard of such a birth defect that kills each baby boy for three generations on its third day of life? In addition, do you think that having a baby boy is a bad idea because of this “birth defect?” I'm truly at a loss of answers and I do not know what to do from here. Please consider my answers and respond appropriately and timely. I only want your human answer. Thank you very much.
Endnote:
This idea came to me when reading about a true story about a doll on the website below. I really just wanted to put myself in the shoes of the person having this issue, because it is clearly not a normal one. I learned about the Joliet doll on this website and used her in this story and a struggling mother. The article was called “Real Haunted Doll Stories.”
